01 The Kennesaw reality

What your yard actually needs.

Kennesaw yards fall into three grass buckets and one soil bucket. The soil is Georgia red clay — heavy, low-pH, and slow to drain. That means whatever grass is on top has to work harder here than it would in Buckhead or the Chattahoochee bottoms.

  • Bermuda — the default in most Kennesaw subdivisions built after 2000. Loves the heat, goes dormant November through March, mowed at 2" through the growing season, and benefits from a spring aeration to shake off the clay.
  • Fescue — common in older neighborhoods with mature tree cover. Beautiful in April and October, brutally stressed by July. Overseeding in mid-September is what keeps it looking like a real lawn.
  • Zoysia — the quiet third option. Slower to fill in but denser, softer underfoot, and holds up to Kennesaw summers as well as Bermuda.
  • Clay soil — almost every Kennesaw yard benefits from a soil test and a lime application. It's the cheapest thing you can do to make everything else work better.

Kennesaw isn't one microclimate — it's several. The shaded lots around Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield hold Fescue better into July than the sunnier ridges near Swift-Cantrell Park or the newer builds along the KSU corridor, which mostly run Bermuda by default. The older streets around downtown Kennesaw and Depot Park usually sit somewhere between — mature hardwoods, mixed grass, and yards that reward a homeowner who knows the difference.

02 Weekly · Bi-weekly

Weekly and bi-weekly lawn maintenance in Kennesaw.

This is what Roots Up does most. Weekly and bi-weekly lawn maintenance is our primary service in Kennesaw — the same crew, on the same day, cutting the same yards every week or every other. It's a monthly package priced per visit, flat rate, with everything from the curb to the back fence included. No line-item edging fee. No "we don't blow off the driveway" surprise.

  • Mow at the right height for your specific grass type — Bermuda at 2", Fescue higher in summer to shade the crown, Zoysia mid-range.
  • String-trim around beds, foundation lines, mailbox posts, fence lines, playsets, and A/C units so the mower line and the trim line match.
  • Hard edge along driveways, walkways, and curbs — the single detail that separates a maintained yard from a mowed one.
  • Blow-off the full property — drives, walks, patios, front porch, back porch. Nothing left on hardscape when we roll out.
  • HOA-presentable result every visit. We send our certificate of insurance to your management office up front if they need it on file before the first cut.
  • Same crew every visit — they learn your gates, your dogs, your sprinkler heads, and the corner of the bed where the neighbor's kids cut through.
  • Weekly or bi-weekly cadence, set at the estimate. Most Kennesaw Bermuda and Zoysia lawns want weekly service May through September; Fescue and shaded lots often work fine bi-weekly.
  • Month-to-month, no annual contract, cancel any time.

Weekly maintenance is a standalone service. It's priced separately from turf care, mulch, and design — you don't have to sign up for a fertilization program to get on the mowing route, and you don't get charged a bundled rate that hides what you're actually paying for. If you already have a turf company you like, we're happy to just handle the mowing.

Starting at $50/ visit Monthly lawn maintenance package — priced per visit, typical cadence weekly or bi-weekly. Most Kennesaw lawns ¼-acre or under start at the $50/visit floor. Larger properties, heavy detail work, or long fence lines: per-visit rate and cadence set at your in-person estimate. Schedule an in-person estimate
03 Seasonal program

Turf care that respects the calendar.

Separate from weekly maintenance. Turf care is a seasonal program — fertilization, weed control, and liquid aeration — built around your specific grass and the UGA Extension calendar for it.

  • Pre-emergent in mid-February, before soil temps hit 55°F and crabgrass germinates
  • Liquid aeration — spring for Bermuda and Zoysia, fall for Fescue. Liquid over core so we can open the clay without pulling plugs across the property.
  • Overseeding for thin Fescue lots in the UGA-recommended September–October window
  • Lime and soil amendments driven by an actual soil test

Annual program $400–$900/ year Full annual turf care program — fertilization, weed control, and liquid aeration — typically runs $400 to $900 per year depending on lot size and program tier. 04 Project work

Sod, mulch, and installs in Kennesaw.

The one-off project work that makes the biggest visible difference — and, for a lot of new-build Kennesaw homes, the work that finally gets the yard past what the builder's original sod pallet actually delivered.

  • Sod install — small repair patches, dead sections that never recovered from summer, and full re-sod jobs for new-build lots where the builder sod didn't take. Bermuda is what we install most often in Kennesaw; Zoysia and Fescue on request.
  • Mulch refresh — hardwood, pine bark, or pine straw depending on the look you're going for and how the beds hold moisture. Cut in fresh at the front of the season and topped as needed.
  • Bed refreshes — clean out the old material, re-shape the bed line, address anything the mulch was covering up, then refresh.
  • Edging refreshes — hard re-cut on the bed lines and driveway edges so the whole property reads sharper without touching a single plant.
  • Small hardscape — stepping stones, boulder placement, and the finishing work that ties beds to lawn.

Project work is quoted at the in-person estimate. Every property is different — square footage of sod, cubic yards of mulch, how much prep and haul-off the beds actually need — and we'd rather see it than guess at it.

05 Plan first, build second

Landscape design in Kennesaw.

A plan-first design service for Kennesaw homeowners who want the yard to actually come together rather than accumulate one bed refresh at a time. We start with a site walk, a conversation about how you use the space, and a written plan you can act on this season or hold for later.

The design is a real deliverable — a plant list, a bed layout, and a phased build order so you're not paying for everything in one season. It works for full-property master plans, backyard renovations, front-yard curb-appeal resets, or a single problem area (a slope that won't hold, a shaded bed nothing survives in, a builder-grade foundation planting that's outgrown itself).

Design fee credits toward the build — if Roots Up builds the plan, the design fee comes off the build invoice. If you'd rather take the plan to another crew, that's fine too. The plan is yours. That's how we'd rather earn the build than lock you into it.

Design for Kennesaw properties often layers in what the neighborhood already does well — hardwood canopy on older streets, open sun on the newer KSU-corridor builds — instead of fighting it. The plan should look right at your address, not generic.

Design engagement Consultation-based Plan-first landscape design, quoted at the in-person site walk. Design fee credits toward the build if Roots Up builds it — and the plan is yours to keep either way. Schedule an in-person estimate
